Comparison post - dark shimmery greens

A couple of weeks ago when I wore Above the Curve Slitheen, I said I would do a comparison to the 2 closest greens that I have.
The 2 greens that came to mind were OPI Live and Let Die and A England Beauty Never Fails. As I went to fetch the 2 bottles from the helmer it was clear they are nothing like the same, but I thought I'd do the post anyway.
From the bottle alone, Beauty Never fails is a lot more yellow and of course has that gold shimmer. Live and Let Die also has a gold shimmer, but the base is a lot bluer, in fact is seems to have a blue smokiness to it that I hadn't remembered. In terms of green tone, Slitheen is probably between the 2 but it is holographic.
On the nail the same is true, Beauty Never Fails is a very dark olivey toned green, with the gold shimmer quite apparent, Live and Let Die does look less yellow and has that blueish cloudiness to it, and the shimmer is more subtle, and then Slitheen in daylight has a similar shimmer to the OPI, and a midway green tone. But that that's just daylight, in the sun, of course Slitheen is holographic so it's a whole different thing! Sun was being a bit evasive this week so I cheated and forced the flash, and even then couldn't properly capture it, but I knew it was there.
So ... similar, but NOT the same - do I need all three? they are dark green so of course I do, but if I only wanted 1 dark green in my collection and I HAD to choose, Slitheen would win, Beauty Never Fails would be 2nd, and Live and Let Die would come 3rd. But it is my collection and I get to keep all 3 :)

Saran wrap mani with Above the Curve Slitheen and TarasTalons Smile

I first saw a saran wrap mani some time ago and thought how pretty it looked, and to be quite honest having decided it was a bit too complex for me, I then promptly forgot about it. However, there I was last week, watching The Crumpet's tutorial videos and I spotted one for the saran wrap.
I watched it a couple of times, and decided that yes, I could probably try that, so that is what I did today.
I had been wearing the very gorgeous Above the Curve Slitheen, and I didn't really want to take it off yet, but equally, having decided I was going to do a saran wrap mani, I wanted to get on and try it, so I thought long and hard about what I might use. I didn't want too much of a contrast for my first attempt, but obviously it needed to be apparent that something had been applied. Thinking about the warm golden glow that I could see in Slitheen, made me think that maybe gold would be a gold colour to try, but I did think it would be nice to use another holo rather than a metallic polish, and then I remembered TarasTalons Smile which I received in one of the Holohands subscriptions.
To be fair, when this arrived it was not love at first sight, I don't really like gold as a nail colour, but as it's quite a soft, almost nude gold it was allowed to sit and wait in the untried box.
As it turned out I think it went really well with Slitheen, the shimmers and holos worked well together, and I am really pleased with the result. It's quite a subtle look, but I am OK with that and I think it looks really autumnal.
What I am even more pleased about was how easy it was to achieve this look, not at all messy and now I want to try it again, maybe be a little braver with my colour choices!
Lots of pictures... this tells you I was so chuffed with this mani, I kept taking more!

Above the Curve Slitheen

Today's polish is gorgeous! When I first saw this one I just had to have it.
This summer Above the Curve brought out a range of polishes inspired by Doctor Who and when I saw swatches Slitheen was the one I absolutely had to have. Obviously there are others too, as they are all gorgeous but this one is so utterly unique in my collection. Although I have a lot of greens, I have nothing else remotely similar: I did think maybe A England Beauty Never Fails, or OPI Live and Let Die, - they are my darkest greens but neither are holo or actually that close when you look. I'll do a comparison post when I take this off and link it in.
I bought this from Sally Magpies who has recently started stocking Above the Curve polishes and when I last checked it was still in stock.
Slitheen, inspired by flatulent green aliens (!), is a stunning dark foresty green with scattered holo. As I may have mentioned before, blues and greens are my most favourite shades for nails, the darker the better so this is just perfect. It has a lovely golden warmth to it, and it is a perfect autumnal polish although being this beautiful I would happily wear it all year round. Although it is dark, it's not so dark that it looks black, the colour and tone is just spot on. I love it!!!
It painted on well, good coverage in 2 coats, and pictures are taken with a layer of top coat which did not dull the holo at all.
Unfortunately the weather has not been the best, so I haven't had a lot of sunshine and my pictures are a bit disappointing as I haven't captured the holo at all. This is such a shame because I really want everyone to see just how special this polish is! You should at least be able to see that this has a gorgeous shimmer, and that it is the most beautiful colour.
