OPI The Impossible

I think this will be a short post. OPI The Impossible from the Mariah Carey range is a coral red sand, with red hexes, and pink, dark red/purple and silver glitter.
It is very pretty, easy to paint and wears well but I am not sure about this shade on my skin tone. I think I'll love this on my toes but I am not wowed by it on my fingers. It is possibly unfair to this polish that I had just cut my nails so they are really short, and not feeling very comfortable.
I love liquid sands, really love the texture and this has a very pretty sparkle to it, more sparkly than the camera has picked up here, just not for me this week :(
I think some polishes you have to be in the right mood for and this has been a pretty challenging week, so I feel mean for saying I don't like it, I do, but I just don't love it! I am pleased I have tried it but glad I only have it in a mini.

OPI Vesper

Well, this is stunning! I am completely in love with it. Anyone who reads my blog will know I am a bit of a Liquid Sand fan, and this one does not disappoint! I love purple, I love darks and I love Liquid Sand, so there we go!
OPI Vesper is one of the Bond Girls Collection, there are six of them but being dark, this is the one that tempted me the most. It is more glittery than What Wizardy is this? from the Oz Collection, but less glittery than the Maria Carey Liquid Sands, reviewed here, here and here. Vesper is a deep aubergine colour, with black glitter. It has not picked up at all in the pictures, but in poor lighting in my study I can clearly see the light catching it. I have used 3 coats here to get get full opacity as the base colour is quite sheer, and even then it is lighter around the edge of the nail. I think when I use this again I will put a dark base underneath, a dark purple or a red black - sure I can find one hanging around in my collection :)

OPI What Wizardry Is This ?

This is another varnish from the collection inspired by the new Wizard of Oz film, Oz the Great and Powerful, made up of 3 glitters, 3 pale shades and one liquid sand. This is the liquid sand, What Wizardry Is This?
I have already tried 3 of the 4 OPI Mariah Carey liquid sands, reviewed, here here and here and it's safe to say I am completely in love with these polishes, love the texture and the look of them.
I have also reviewed 3 others from this Oz the Great and Powerful collection : When Monkeys Fly! Which is Witch? and Lights of Emerald City here, here and here.

What Wizardry Is This ? is more subtle than the Mariah Carey sands, but no less beautiful. It does not have large chunks of co-ordinating or contrasting glitter, but what it does have is a gorgeous matte, but shimmery finish in a taupe, bronze shade. Its quite hard to describe but it really does have that look of smooth wet sand on the beach just as a wave has washed back down.
It painted on beautifully, 2 coats gave great coverage and I love it!

OPI Get Your Number

This is the 3^rd Mariah Carey Liquid Sand I have tried. OPI Get Your Number is a vibrant blue liquid sand with holographic glitter which catches the light beautifully. I don’t like this one as much as the first two I tried, here and here as the blue is just a bit bright for me but I do love the way it twinkles in the sunlight, and I think I’d love this on my toes if we ever get any summer.

It took 3 coats to get really good coverage and I think when I wear it again I might try a blue underneath if I can find something suitable as the finish was fine after 2 coats but I could still see the visible nail line.

As with the other 2 sands, I really love the texture and when I change my polish now everything else seems super smooth to the touch! I think I might actually be getting addicted to this texture and I can't  wait for the new OPI Bond Girls Collection later in the year!

Anyway, back to Get Your Number, here are a few pics including a couple I managed to catch when the sun peeped out. You can start to see the beautiful colours captured by the glitter.

  

 

 

OPI Can't Let Go

Another of the OPI Mariah Carey Liquid Sands today - Can't Let Go which is a beautiful purple.
My camera would have you believe it's more blue - very tricky to photograph.
As with Stay The Night, it dries to a matte, textured finish, filled with medium and very small purple glitters which catch the light beautifully. I do like the texture, I wasn't expecting to and I like the look of the finish. I am not keen on flat matte polishes but this has so much life it is just stunning. I think I can see some blue in it but there isn't a contrasting colour like Stay The Night..
It applied well and coverage was good with 2 coats, but I'll be interested to see how it wears. Stay The Night was pretty resilient but the black did fade to grey, and some of the red glitter lost its colour.
Anyway, this is lovely so let's share the pictures which as I say, show it to look more blue than in reality. The final shot is probably the most true to what I can see.

OPI Stay The Night

Well I absolutely love this! For Spring 2013 OPI brought out the Mariah Carey range, and 4 of those shades are their new technology liquid sands. They just happened to bring out all 4 in a set of minis, and at first I wasn't 100% how I would feel about these so I bought the set, to give them a try. One swatch and I was in love.
I decided to start with Stay The Night, which is black with red glitter.
The first coat is not impressive, red glitter in a greyish background, but the density built up nicely with the second coat and I did go for a third to make sure I got the best coverage. I think maybe I could have used a dark undie to start, to save the precious liquid sand! So what you have is a black matte sand-like finish with pinky red sparkly glitter, and no top coat. I will top coat them later - when I swatched them I tried both and loved it either way. I really like that you have that flexibility with these.
I love the way that the glitter twinkles in the black base and my husband, known for his complete lack of interest in nails, said "wow" when I showed him and likened it to lava, when its cooled but you can still see red hot lava peeping through the cracks.
The texture is rough, but not gritty and I'd say probably smoother to the touch than the Nails Inc Leather Effects.
Anyway, the pictures - took a few as they were so pretty  and I think I've captured them reasonably well.
